This Thesis is a qualitative study of import of new cars from non EU-countries to Finland. The main purpose of this study is to get a good overall view of the entire import process and its stages. Cars are large in size, and that places a special requirement on how to transport them in the best way. Goods imported from third countries into the EU area must always be cleared through customs, and it sets special requirements to the import process compared to the internal market. In this Thesis the import process is divided into four parts: the purchase, transports, Customs procedures and distribution. These points performs the frame to the study. The sources used in the work are books on the subject and different Internet pages. In the empirical I interviewed 5 different people from 4 companies. Two of the companies are logistic companies that are specialized in cars, and the other two companies are official importers of individual car brands. The interviews were conducted as semi-structured and they are transcribed as attachments. The result shows that there is not a company that would manage the whole process from the factory to end consumer. It turns out that official importers manages purchasing, and partly transport. They have outsourced many stages to logistical companies. The selection of in-terview objects was good, so you get a better overall view with different opinions and views. All the companies import process are similar-looking. The same transport alterna-tives are used by all. Customs clearance looks different, and some of the companies do not have a role in it. That is because the Customs clearance is done immediately when the car arrives Europe. The key documents in the Import process turned out to be: invoice, CoC certificate, bill of lading and different Inco. The car industry seems to change at the moment. There are fewer importers in Finland, and many brands centralizes their process-es in major offices in Europe, that take care of all the countries.
