Corporate social responsibility has become an improtant and key concept for today’s organizations. CSR refers to voluntarily behave in an ethical manner and contribute to economic development while, consecutively improving the society, workplace, and local community. The concept of CSR revolves around the notion of Triple Bottom Line, which is people, planet and profit.
This study is specifically designed to study the concept of CSR and its perception in Public and Private companies in Finland. Different theories were analyzed in contrast with real companeis to find out what motivates the companies to engage in CSR and what kind of benefits they tend to achieve by engaging in CSR acivities. The sphere of CSR is examined and the founded theory is compared with empirical findings of the study
The study aims at finding the possible reasons and motives which inspire companies to engage in CSR activities and also the possible benefits that companies can gain through CSR. Moreover, the question of CSR and its financial implications is raised and through the data gathered and analyzed, author of the thesis has also tried to answer it. The author has explained if or not there is any correlation between CSR and financial performance of the company.
The results of the research are helpful in gaining better understanting of the concept of CSR and its implications. The results will enable companies to discover some major benefits of CSR and how to avail them. It will also be beneficial for companies in future decision making processes.
