The purpose of this study was to use a financial statement analysis to compare and look at the development of AS Tallink Group and Viking Line Abp on the basis of their financial statements for the period of 2006 until 2011. The analysis was made on the facts that had come from the consolidated financial statements for the years 2007, 2009 and 2011. The analysis is made from a general point of view and no direct contact with the companies has been made. Besides the financial statements I have also gathered material from the corporates websites, from their annual reports and from articles from various media. The study showed that a comparison is possible to do even though the companies are different in terms of their size, this because of the calculated financial ratios. In addition, the result also showed that the development of AS Tallink Group is much more profitable and can provide brighter future forecasts than what Viking Line Abp development showed. The analysis also showed that the past five years have not been easy for either of the compa-nies. AS Tallink Group´s development has gone up and down in waves and but looks now like it has balanced and turn to a steady rise. While Viking Line Abp´s development mostly goes in a downward sloping line. From the analysis one can draw the conclusion that Tallink has a strategy that seems to work, and as long as the fuel cost and the interest rates do not rise, it will go well for the company. Viking Line again has to think about where it went wrong, to be able to fix the problem to again be as profitable as in 2007. For both of the companies the future strongly depends on how the global economy devel-ops, how the bunker prices develop and how they will get more revenue per passenger.
