This thesis discusses reward systems and how to use them to motivate and to increase the effectiveness of the employees in their work. I will also address the taxation of rewards because this plays an important role in the introduction of a reward system.
The theoretical part of the work is divided into three parts; the first part deals with motivation and motivations importance of working conditions. The second part deals with reward systems and contains also the monetary and non-monetary reward practices. The second part deals also with the adaption of the reward system and the third part of the work deals with the taxation of rewards.
The empirical part of the work consists of a qualitative case study that is applied to the chain Emotion, in Kokkola, which operates in the beauty industry and is a part of KPO group. The informants in the study consist of the store manager and all four employees of Emotion in Kokkola.
The survey results show that KPO group has an extensive reward system, which is important for the employees at Emotion in Kokkola. The reward system is also affecting their motivation to work. Through the interviews it turned out that all informants are motivated by both the monetary and non-monetary rewards. The non-monetary rewards had a major impact on motivation while the monetary rewards were important to get confirmation that the employee’s performance was important and that the effort was appreciated by the KPO group. It is very individual which things motivate the employees more than usual in their work.
