Computer-aided manufacturing, or CAM, is today a commonly used tool in the manufacturing industry. During my work with the conveyer belt and the storage table for the welding station, I was asked to plan and monitor the manufacturing process from start to finish. The aim was to produce the tables in such a way that the production of tables in the workshop would go smoothly, and as little as possible of the left over steel would remain. With the work we aimed to ensure that no part would be oversized, and that meant doing some calculations of the dimensions of the parts manufactured, and since one pays for the number of kilos of steel you order, it was also in our interest not to order any oversized steel beams. The work was done at Protoni-Engineering Oy in Ylöjärvi and part of the planning was done together with the employees at the company. Autodesk Inventor was used for the design, and steel was used as the engineering material.
In the end we were happy with the results, but the schedule was exceeded. We managed to keep the production of the tables within the budget and only a few kilos of steel were left over. The production of the tables began, but was not finished in time before this work was done. The reason for the delay was mainly the long delivery time of some components.
