This Bachelor’s thesis was conducted at the request of the project Branding Scandinavian Islands with the aim to map the environmental aspects within companies in the business of tourism. The theoretical framework consisted of economic, sociocultural and ecological sustainability, eco labeling, consumer values in the Cultural Creatives movement and the LOHAS consumer marketplace. LOHAS is short for Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability and refers to products and services that focus on health, the environment, social justice, personal development and a sustainable lifestyle.
The aim with this survey was to localize suitable candidates, among the companies within the area of Scandinavian Islands in Finland, for practicing LOHAS tourism. The aim was achieved through a survey that studied the environmental aspects among tourism companies in the selected areas of Naantali, Raasepori and Uusikaupunki. The survey managed to get hold of companies that are interested in taking part in the project Branding Scandinavian Islands and also demonstrated their outlook on the LOHAS market as a possibility for their business. The goal is that the project, with help from this survey, is to contact the companies who in their replies showed interest in sustainability and environmental responsibility. These companies are then likely to become new members in the project Branding Scandinavian Islands.
