barn utan handikapp i samma ålder.
underlättat inklusion i olika situationer.
Sport is an important part of a child’s development, both socially and physically. Children
with disabilities have in many cases limited opportunities to participate in sports compared
to children without disabilities of similar age.
The purpose of this study is to describe research on children with disabilities and their
experiences of participation when they are included in sports groups and physical
education with other children. Furthermore the study will focus on identifying problems
that may arise or have arisen, or what might have contributed in these situations. This to
gain knowledge how to create better opportunities for children's participation in physical
activities. To meet the purpose a literature review was used as method. Scientific articles
were collected through databases of EBSCO SAGEpub, PubMed, and ERIC. Only
qualitative studies were included to gain a deeper and more explanatory picture, which
fulfilled the purpose better. A total of thirteen articles were included in the final study, two
literature studies and eleven completed by interview and observation or survey. The
encoding of the content resulted in three categories: social aspects, attitudes and physical
aspects. The results showed that children with disabilities in most cases appreciated
inclusion and their experiences were mostly positive. Making friends, being part of the
group and improved self-confidence were among topics that children with disabilities
mentioned. The majority of parents also had positive experiences regarding inclusion of
their children in sport. The experiences and attitudes of physical education teachers were
more varied. Factors that prevented participation were negative attitudes of other children
that participated, parents, coaches and teachers. Also lack of knowledge of the physical
education teacher and other people who were involved had a negative effect.
