In todays society it is very important for both young and old to be media literate.
Media education is a compulsory part of every elementary schools program, but in many
cases the media education that the school offer isn´t enough.
As a final production in Arcada I have written and putted together an informative book in
media for children and youths.
My aim with the book has been to give the reader a critical approach to media messages,
teach them to analyze what they see, read and hear, boost the awareness about the potential
threats and opportunities that comes with media, and also incite the readers interest to
create media productions of their own.
In this work I describe the process from how the idea developed to a finished book that
gets evaluated by the target group.
The questions at issue i have answered in this work is; How will my book ”Se, läs, lär &
gör – Media!” be received? Have I reached my target group?
A focus group containing five 11-12-year-olds and five 15-16-year-olds, evaluated the
prototype of the book and gave their opinions in a evaluation questionnaire.
The results shows that the attitudes towards the book are positive, and also that the book
could suit a wider target group than i first had predicted.
