This thesis is about how shareholders, who work in a small limited company, can raise funds from the company and at the same time optimize their own net income. The thesis also describes how the taxation for limited companies and private incomes is applied. The purpose of the research is to examine the shareholders’ possibilities for an optimal net income and therefore it is written from the shareholders' point of view. The theoretical part of the thesis explains how the current law for taxation is applied and the opportunities that the shareholders have to raise funds from the company as salary or dividend. The practical part of the work deals with various options for the shareholders to raise funds from the company and three hypotheses. The case-company under investigation is a family-owned company that operates in the restaurant business. The company is owned and operated by three shareholders. The purpose of the empirical investigation is to find the optimal way to raise funds from the company. The qualitative study was carried out by comparing different combinations of ways to raise funds for the shareholders. To get a broader understanding of how net income is affected by raising salary and dividends, three hypotheses were examined in which the company's turnover and net worth increased. The results of the survey show that shareholders can influence their net income by combining funds by raising salary and dividends under the right conditions. The results also show that each company must be examined individually to find an optimal solution.
