This Bachelor’s Thesis is a marketing research for the Pirkanmaa University of Applied Sciences (PIRAMK) Library and Information Services. The research is done about the PIRAMK Social Services unit Library. I have studied how the students and teachers in the Social Services unit perceive and use the Pyynikintie library and its services. The aim of the research is to use the results to develop the library’s services by keeping in mind the customer groups’ needs, and to be able to establish a marketing strategy for the library. I have used information from books and websites for the theory part to describe central marketing terms. The thesis is a qualitative study. The empirical part consists of theme interviews which I held as group discussions with the first and third year students and teachers in the PIRAMK Social Services unit. The questions in the interviews are taken from the national customer satisfaction questionnaire for polytechnic libraries 2008. The questions cover the participants’ perceptions and experiences of the Pyynikintie library and what it is like to use the library. The results show that the Pyynikintie library is considered a valuable part of the organization and is important to all customer groups. The library is seen as a positive and well functioning place where it’s mostly easy to patronize, work and do information searches. Development goals are the library’s PR, e.g. better collaboration with teachers, and the library’s way of presenting and informing about its service to the customers using more effective marketing methods.
