Tiivistelmä
A case study of 10-week group-based weight loss program was carried out in Kokkola, Finland in the year of 2008. The important related issues and key terminology are discussed in this research study.
The key goals of the study were to find out the usefulness of the group program and the successfulness of the participants in weight loss both during and after the program as well as the exercising roles and previous experiences.
The group consisted of 12 women and seven men from different ages, previous experiences, activities in work life, etc. The data used in the study was collected in eight group meetings and in a control meeting arranged six months after the program. In addition, a questionnaire was used. The results indicated the group study as successful since the participants lost 3.3% of their weight within 10 weeks. In conclusion, women were more successful than men in the weight loss and succeeded better in maintaining the weight after the program. The most important success factor appeared to be activity of working life.
