Sammandrag:
Abstract:
This thesis was made in cooperation with Helsingfors Ergoterapi Ab. Helsingfors Ergoterapi Ab wished that this project theoretically would describe the occupational therapists way of thinking in their practical job. The purpose with this thesis is to
visualize occupational therapists clinical reasoning. The thesis is specified to occupational therapists working with children. The thesis issues are: how is the narrative, procedural, pragmatic, interactive and conditional reasoning seen at an occupational therapist working with children? Are there any other forms of clinical reasoning that occupational therapists working with children use? The thesis theoretical frame of reference is clinical reasoning. The method used is qualitative theme interviews. The informants are six occupational therapists that have worked with children 5-25 years. Sentence concentration was used to analyze the material and the new categories that rise from the interviews are: the occupational therapist´s knowledge and resources, assessment, goals, the children’s motivation, the children’s safety, cooperation and communication, choice of activities and evaluation of therapy.
The result from this investigation shows that occupational therapists at Helsingfors Ergoterapi Ab use all of the different modes of clinical reasoning, which means: scientific, diagnostic, procedural, narrative, pragmatic, ethical, conditional and interactive reasoning.
