Abstract
Maisterin opinnäytetyöni koostuu neljästä näyttelystä: S P A C E D (galleria Lapinlahti, Helsinki 2018), fin.land (Suomen valokuvataiteen museo, Helsinki, 2018), Status Flux (Vapaantaiteen tila, Helsinki, 2018), Figures (Galleria Hippolyte, Helsinki, 2019) sekä Jäähyväiset Maisemalle -nimisestä kirjallisesta osuudesta.

My master’s thesis consists of four exhibitions: S P A C E D (gallery Lapinlahti, Helsinki, 2018), fin.land (The Finnish Museum of Photography, Helsinki, 2018), Status Flux (Space for Free Arts, Helsinki, 2018), Figures (gallery Hippolyte, Helsinki, 2019) as well as a written part Jäähyväiset maisemalle (Farewell to the Landscape). The exhibited works are introduced in the beginning of the thesis. The exhibition documentations are included at the end of the thesis. Between the different chapters of the text the reader is introduced to works which are in progress. My artistic practice is concerned with the nature of landscape as image as well as the similarities and differences between artistic and industrial production. The source materials I work with derive from everyday contexts with a close relation to products that relate to circulation and their sense of reproducibility. In exhibition context the individual works set a framework which can be examined against themes of colonial histories, the paradoxes of endless production and the climate crisis. Within the set framework, the works can be viewed as both art and societal criticism. The source of materials in my written thesis consist of critical theory on landscape and documentary practices as well as examples from visual arts that have been influential for my mode of thinking. The thesis includes short autofictive essays which describe my artistic process. My artistic process and work are a reaction to a compilation of current world affairs, personal experiences and events past and present. The structuring and layout of the thesis follows a similar form where questions, new themes and topics continuously arise from finding connections between the discussed topics.
