Abstract
Supply chain collaboration has been found almost a prerequisite for success in current business environment. Different collaboration models have been employed during the last decades. One of the most common and studied collaboration model is vendor-managed inventory (VMI) which is known for multiple success stories since 1980s. This thesis proposes the optimal supply chain collaboration model between the supplier and a nationwide retail customer in order to achieve benefits across the entire value chain. The study adopts constructive research approach and case study methods to solve a real-life business problem. The study is restricted to one of the case company's business units and its products. The analyses are based on the data from 2015. Different supply chain scenarios were modeled using simulations that were programmed in Excel. The simulations returned stock levels in the central warehouse for different supply chain scenarios. The results of this study indicate that open information sharing in supply chains benefits the whole supply chain. Transparent cost information and the lack of partial optimization enable improving the efficiency throughout the entire chain. This study also showed that designing product-specific supply chains may result in major cost savings. Especially, if the supply chain is optimized to allow only one warehousing location for each item the decrease in transportation, warehouse handling and stock holding is significant. Furthermore, perishable products benefit from better shelf life. To eliminate excess warehousing phases, this thesis introduced direct factory deliveries and retailer cross-docking logistic models. This case study provides company-specific cost information and profitability analyses that cannot be directly applied to other business environments. However, the operating models and concepts that eliminate excess work in supply chains can be generalized across different industries.

Nykyinen liiketoimintaympäristö haastaa yritykset, jolloin menestyksen edellytykseksi nostetaan monesti toimitusketjuyhteistyö. Erilaisia yhteistyön muotoja on otettu käyttöön viime vuosikymmenten aikana lukuisia. Materiaali työn analyyseihin on kerätty vuoden 2015 tiedoista. Erilaisia toimitusketjumalleja simuloitiin Excelissä. Simulaatioiden tuloksena saatiin keskusvaraston varastotaso kaikissa vaihtoehtoisissa skenaarioissa.
