Abstract
Tiedonhallinnan merkitys on lisääntynyt rakennusprojekteissa viime vuosina huomattavasti. Rakennusprojekteissa käsiteltävä tiedon määrä on kasvanut, eikä perinteiset tiedonhallinnan menetelmät riitä käsittelemään tätä suurta tiedon määrää. Rakennusprojektit ovat monen yrityksen yhteistyön tuottamia, ja näiden yritysten välinen tiedonvälitys vaikuttaa suuresti projektin onnistumiseen. Tutkimuksessa selvitetään kirjallisuuden perusteella tehokkaan tiedonhallinnan kriittisiä tekijöitä. Kriittisillä tekijöillä tarkoitetaan asioita, joita perinteisillä tiedonhallintamenetelmillä ovat ongelmallisia, tai joita edellytetään uuden tiedonhallintamenetelmän onnistumiselle. Tutkimuksessa haastatellaan myös pohjarakentamistyömaan osapuolia. Haastatteluissa kysytään osapuolien näkökulmia nykyisestä tiedonhallintajärjestelmästä ja selvitetään mitä he tarvitsevat uudesta järjestelmästä. Työn tuloksena on uusi tiedonhallintajärjestelmä poraustyölle.

The importance of information management in construction projects has increased in recent years. The amount of data handled in construction projects has increased so much that traditional data management methods are not enough to handle this large amount of data. Construction projects are executed as cooperation between several companies and data communication between the companies will greatly affect the success of the project. The study examines the critical elements of effective information management on the basis of literature. The critical elements refer to the things that are problematic using traditional data management methods. The critical elements also refer to what is required for the success of a new method of data management. The study also contains interviews with different parties of construction projects. In the interviews the different parties give their perspectives on current data management system and explain what they need from a new system. The study includes a development of a new information management system for drilling work. The use of the new system is also simulated. The simulation evaluates how it works compared to the current system and how well it takes into account the critical elements of effective information management. The result of this study is a new information management system for drilling work. The new system will prove to be simpler than the old. The new system is also a timesaver for the different parties of a construction project. The newly-developed information management system is still in its early stages, and its final benefit cannot be assessed without further investigation. The suitability of the new information management system to other types of work than drilling cannot be assessed based on this study.
