Abstract
Työssä on olennaista erityisesti muutoksen abstrakti tarkastelu.

This thesis is an artistic process exploring the role of technology in relation to humans and the surrounding reality – nature. It strives to perceive the versatile thoughts about the society of changes where the significance of technology is constantly growing. The abstract observing of change is in the core of the study. The basis of this thesis is the interest toward technology as a phenomenon of our time and the future as well as an instrument of creative practice. The reflection is based on the assumption that creative fields can explore phenomena similarly to science and work in productive collaboration with different fields. Interdisciplinary approach was essential for the work. As a part of the study, interviews were conducted for relevant operatives at Aalto University and some parts of the work were executed in ADDlab, Digital Design Laboratory and in the Department of Forest Products Technology in Aalto University. The thesis consists of a written and productive part which were progressed side by side: gathered information affected the progress of production which created new information. The theoretical part examines the topic by investigating literature sources, interviews and the work of reference artists. The work also represents theories of posthumanism and its controversial field of transhumanism. Transhumanism's thoughts on extending the body and mind by using technology are extreme examples of the world view based on technological development. The production part focuses on to ponder the novel form of the human body and its living and non-living properties. Jatkeet-installation which uses 3D-technology and living materials was created as a result of the work. The artwork are 3D-sculptures from plaster-like material and three-dimensional, living bacterial cellulose objects in organic liquid. The installation is not separate from the theoretical work. It is a part of the research and a part of the result itself. In its entirety, the thesis is related to the complex context of the human being, art and technology as well as the field of art & science.
