Abstract
Hydrattua bisfenoli A:n diglysidyylieetteriä (hydrogenated diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A, HDGEBA) testattiin 15:ta kaupallisen amiinikovettimen kanssa kovettumisen tapahtuessa huoneenlämpötilassa, ja kaikkiaan kokeita tehtiin 58:lla eri yhdistelmällä. Kovettuminen oli hitaampaa kuin aromaattisella epoksihartsilla, bisfenoli A:n diglysidyylieetterillä (diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A, DGEBA), mutta lopulliset kovuudet 14 vrk kuluttua olivat parhaimmillaan samaa luokkaa.

Epoxies are not only known for their excellent adhesion in adhesives and protective properties in encapsulation of electronics but also as significant group of products in industrial coatings. Along polyurethanes they are the most important organic coatings for corrosion protection. Despite the diverse chemistry of epoxies their use is hindered by their tendency to yellow under UV radiation. This drawback can be overcome by coating the epoxy with polyurethane or, like in this master’s thesis, by finding a suitable aliphatic epoxy to act as a weathering resistant alternative. Hydrogenated diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (HDGEBA) was tested with 15 commercial amine hardeners in ambient temperature and in total 58 combinations were tested. HDGEBA epoxies showed very low colour after UV radiation testing compared to regular epoxies and they yellowed only twice as much as polyurethanes. Dry-hard time was 13 hours on average. Development of hardness was slower than of the aromatic epoxy resin, diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA), but reached the same level in best cases after 2 weeks. Additionally, four epoxy-amine combinations were analysed with ssNMR, DMA and TGA methods. In NMR there was no significant change in spectra between samples of 1 and 14 days of curing. It was also noticed that curing can be observed qualitatively from a chemical shift in 60 ppm frequency. According to DMA testing the glass-transition temperature (Tg) will rise approximately 20 °C between curing of 1 and 14 days and the there is a substantial dependence between the (post) curing temperature and the Tg and degree of cure of the epoxy. TGA analysis showed that the profile of the thermal decomposition of epoxies differs little between samples of 1 and 14 days of curing. Aromatic molecular structures raise the temperature of decomposition and the amount of thermally stable ash.
