Abstract
The objective of this thesis was to define a modular product structure for an X-ray device. In addition, manufacturing aspects of the product structuring were explored. Product development processes, product structure, modularity, manufacturing aspects of product structuring, and product structuring methods were researched for this thesis. The research found that determining an overall structure of the product is an essential part of the product development process and that manufacturing sets requirements on the module division, module independency and module interfaces. A new system structuring method and product structuring tools were created. In the case study, the new system structuring method and product structuring tools were successfully implemented to create a modular product structure for the X-ray device.
