Näin on myös aiheen antaneessa yrityksessä, jonka tiloissa toimiva toimittajan omistuksessa oleva kaupintavarastossa muutettiin automatisoiduksi varastotilaksi, jonka varastosta otot kirjautuvat ilman varastohenkilökunnan työpanosta.
Companies are continually aiming to improve their operational efficiency. Procurement professionals and academics alike consider collaboration with suppliers, and automation are indisputable practices to improve the cost-effectiveness, agility, and reliability of the supply chain. Such factors were driving a decision to automate a consignment stock stocked, and owned by the supplier, in a manner that registers stock withdrawals without the supervision of warehouse personnel. The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to examine the effects of the new warehouse solution on the customer and the supplier.
The empirical material of this thesis consists of interviews of a representative of the supplier and of the client company, and of the case, and the consumption reports from before and after the transition. The change of consumption between years is analysed by category as well as the average prices of the items taken from the consignment stock only during one examining period.
Based on the results, the main benefit to the customer is a percentually significant decrease in the invoiced taken items from the consignment stock, more accurate identification data for each transaction and freed human resources from operating the consignment stock. While the supplier’s operational workload increased, there were also major advantages for the supplier, including the ability to decrease the capital tied in the consignment stock and the competitive advantage provided by the benefits to the customer.
