This research work deals with the implementation of internal damping and the study of its effect on rotor-bearing system. The modelling method for internal damping has been detailly outlined. Each parameter of the equation of motion including internal damping parameters has been constructed in matrix or vector form. Greater detail has been paid to the formulation of internal damping matrices. The internal damping matrices have been implemented into the rotor dynamics analysis code. A numerical example has been chosen as a test sample for validating the implementation of internal damping into the rotor dynamics analysis code. A successful validation of including internal damping into the rotor analysis code has been achieved. The effect of internal damping on a rotor-bearing system has been investigated. This has been done by analysing the results obtained from the rotor analysis code with internal damping being included as a parameter then, comparing it to that in which internal has been omitted. At the end, it is seen that internal damping causes a rotor-bearing system to be unstable and this destabilizing effect should be avoided to save human accidents, machine breakage and property lost.
