Tiivistelmä
This thesis focuses on Bayesian optimal design and its applications to X-ray tomography. X-ray tomography is a well-known setting where X-rays are projected at an object. X-ray intensity data is recorded on the other side of the object by sensors. Data sets from different angles form a linear inverse problem. Solving the problem allows mapping of the composition of an object. Applying Bayesian optimal design and sequential algorithm to this problem improves accuracy of reconstruction when the composition of the object is unknown. This thesis covers two design models: A- and D-optimal designs. Objects of the thesis are to present the designs and test them in a controlled environment against a random method of projection angle selection. Both A- and D-optimal designs perform better compared to the random method, but the A-optimal design was superior to all methods. D-optimal design provides worse results during the early iterations, but eventually D-optimality is able to catch up to A-optimality and after that both methods are equal. D-optimal design places projection angles next to previous ones whereas A-optimality places the angles more evenly, which is the cause between the differences in accuracy. Eri kulmista otetut arvot muodostavat lineaarisen käänteisen ongelman. Ongelman ratkaiseminen mahdollistaa kohteen koostumuksen kartoittamisen. Bayesin optimaalisen suunnittelun soveltaminen tähän ongelmaan parantaa jälleenrakennuksen tarkkuutta, kun kohteen koostumus on tuntematon. Diplomityö kattaa kaksi suunnittelumallia: A- ja D-optimaalinen suunnittelu. Eroavaisuudet tuloksissa johtuvat kulmien valintatavasta.
