The electricity system is facing significant changes in the upcoming years due to increasing renewable energy production and electrified transport, as well as, the weather-proofed distribution network investments. The traditional one-way electric distribution network is becoming insufficient and the system will be required to adapt better to the variation and fragmentation of the energy production and consumption in the future. The importance of the low-voltage grid as a part of the distribution network increases as the energy production moves from large-scale centralized solutions towards more decentralized energy generation.
In this thesis, the low-voltage network management is examined from the commissioning part to the first detected interruption that is caused by the fault in the system. One of the main purposes of the study is to resolve the most convenient time to store the documentation changes related to network commissioning to the Master-database and the update of the network, while comparing it to the timing of the commissioning.
Advanced distribution management system combined with smart electricity meters enables efficient monitoring of the low-voltage network and detection of the possible malfunction and its extent even before sending a repair unit to fix it. As the network company knows the faults in the network faster and more accurately, can the customers be notified better and to be provided more specified estimation for the repair.
