Tiivistelmä
Tämän diplomityön tarkoituksena oli selvittää, kyetäänkö laserkäsittelyn avulla parantamaan biolietteen kuiva-ainepitoisuutta. Lisäksi tutkittiin suodatuksen tukiaineiden käyttöä lietteen suodatuksessa. Kirjallisuusosassa tarkasteltiin lietteenkäsittelyn nykytilaa, biolietteen ominaisuuksia ja suodatusta, lasertekniikkaa lietteiden käsittelyssä sekä uusia tekniikoita lietteenkäsittelyyn. Kokeellisessa osassa optimoitiin lasereiden parametreja biolietteen kuiva-ainepitoisuuden kohottamiseksi. Lisäksi tutkittiin lisäaineiden kykyä parantaa lasersäteen absorptiota sekä toimia suodatuksen tukiaineina. Tavoitteena oli nostaa biolietteen kuiva-ainepitoisuus yli 30 % laserkäsittelyllä.
Kokeiden perusteella löydettiin parametriyhdistelmä, jolla saatiin nostettua biolietteen kuiva-ainepitoisuutta. Mustalla pigmentillä saatiin parannettua lasersäteen absorptiota biolietteeseen. Biolietteen kuiva-ainepitoisuutta saatiin nostettua 10,3 %:sta 14,8 %:iin. Suodatusaika lyhentyi noin 40 %.
Kokeiltujen tukiaineiden avulla saatiin nopeutettua lietteen suodatusta huomattavasti niiden tehdessä kakusta huokoisemman. Tukiaineilla saatiin lyhennettyä suodatusaikaa noin 70 % verrattuna biolietteen suodatukseen ilman tukiaineita.
The aim of this master’s thesis was to study if dewaterability of biosludge could be improved using laser technology. In addition, the usage of filter aids in the filtration of sludge was studied. In the theoretical part, the properties and the filtration of biosludge and sludge treatment technologies were researched. Laser technology and new technologies in sludge treatment were also studied. In the experimental part, laser parameters were optimized to improve the dry content of biosludge. The effect of additives to enhance absorption of a laser beam to the sludge and the ability of the additives to act as filter aids were also investigated. The aim was to raise the dry content of biosludge to at least 30 % by laser treatment.
The parameter combination for improving the dry content of biosludge was found based on studies. Absorption of the laser beam to biosludge was enhanced by adding a black pigment to the sludge sample before the laser treatment. The dry content of biosludge was improved from 10,3 % to 14,8 %. The filtration time was about 40 % shorter than in the filtration of the non-laser-treated biosludge.
The filtration time was significantly shorter by adding filter aids than in the filtration of biosludge without any additives. Filter aids produced a porous filter cake which water could easily penetrate. The filtration time of the biosludge sample with a filter aid was about 70 % shorter than the filtration of biosludge without additives. The dry content of the cake was increased because of the added filter aid.
When the black pigment was added to improve absorption of the laser beam and the filter aid was added before the filtration, the dry content of biosludge was 22,9 %. The dry content of the untreated biosludge sample with the black pigment and the filter aid was 20,0 %. The dry content of biosludge was improved by a few percentage points by using the pulse laser in this thesis. That was about 15 % improvement compared to the non-laser-treated sample. In the future, the studies could be continued by using new lasers in the laser treatment of biosludge.
