Toiminnan tietomallin avulla yrityksellä on mahdollisuus parantaa toimintaansa. Toiminnan tietomallin käytön edellytyksenä on, että tiedot toiminnan tietomalliin on mahdollista saada avoimessa tiedostomuodossa ja yhteisesti hyväksyttyjen standardien mukaisina. The aim of the study was to examine the utilization and requirements of information models to improve and to enhance the process of the precast concrete element. In addition, the challenges in the process were mapped and solutions were sought from previous studies. The study clarified the complexity of the construction industry and the challenges of the concrete element process based on information modelling. The study was part of the project, in which a functional information model was developed. One of the validated objects in the functional information model was a precast concrete element process. The study was conducted as a qualitative and inductive case study from the viewpoint of the two stakeholders in the process of the precast concrete element. As a result, the functional information model was determined generally and for the process of the precast concrete element. The requirements for the utilization of the functional information model were defined. Both the functional information model and previous studies provided several alternative solutions to the challenges in the process of the precast concrete element. The functional information model enables companies to enhance their business processes. The utilization of the functional information model requires data and information in an open and standardized format.
