The competitive situation in the logistics service markets, continuing trend of outsourcing for companies and the growing standard for services are forcing the LSPs’ to increase service offerings and to think new ways to engage and serve customers better. One of the latest innovations is the control tower solution, which allows managing the supply chain and providing real-time E2E visibility. The aim of this work is to study thoroughly control tower model, starting from the definition, establishment, purpose, benefits, operators, pricing and ending to current market views.
The work consists of theory and empirical part. The theoretical part is based on the literature and expert publications of logistics outsourcing and control tower services. The empirical part describes case companies which have implemented the control tower. Additionally, the chapter provides analysis of the current 3PL service offerings regarding control tower services on the market. The material for the cases was collected together with the instructor. Moreover, the information of the current service offerings was gathered from corporate web sites. Finally, the work outlines future insights, conclusions and summary.
Based on the study, 3PL service offering for CT services in Finland are not fully exploited compared to international markets. In the future, there’s a possibility that control tower service might descend from value-added to basic service.
