Molemmat vertailtavat indeksit tuottivat koko tarkasteluajanjaksolta huonosti. OMX Helsinki 25 -indeksi sai positiivisen tuoton koko tarkasteluajanjaksolta, tämänkin ollessa erittäin matala. Brexitin havaittiin tuovan paljon epävarmuutta. Tätä tukee äänestystuloksen julkistamispäivän aiheuttama erittäin suuri indeksin sukeltaminen. Menestysmittarit antoivat molemmille indekseille negatiivisia arvoja. Ainoana poikkeuksena ovat OMXH 25 -indeksin menestysmittareiden antamat positiiviset arvot heinäkuussa 2016, eli Suomen osakemarkkinat toipuivat nopeasti äänestystuloksen jälkeisestä osakemarkkinoiden sukelluksesta. There are very few studies of political risk as its newly developed form. Earlier researches have mainly focused on analyzing what kind of factors affect stock markets in all their forms. In this thesis I investigate the impacts of Brexit on the Finnish stock market. The aim has been to investigate how OMX Helsinki 25 index has developed during the major time period of this thesis compared to FTSE 100 index of the London stock exchange.
The data consisted of the indexes as defined along this thesis. All of the returns of the two indexes were calculated from the daily total return index of which I then calculated the monthly average. The returns were then compared between the two indexes mentioned above in short term because of the limited time period. To endorse the monthly returns the following success indicators were chosen: Sharpe ratio and Treynor ratio.
Based on the results of the numeric data, it can be said that the greatest impacts of Brexit on the Finnish stock market falls on June 2016 when the result of the referendum was published. Both comparative indexes developed relatively poorly between 01.04.2015-29.07.2016. OMX Helsinki 25 index made the only positive average return during this whole time period. It was found that Brexit creates a lot of uncertainty on stock market. This finding is supported by the diving of the index caused by the result disclosure of the referendum. Both the calculated success indicators got negative values. The only exception was July 2016 when OMXH 25 index scored positive values. This means that the Finnish stock market made a quick recovery from the post referendum shock.
