The objective for this study is to develop tools to influence the interaction of a social media community for improving customer experience and customer value. The tools are created based on the scientific literature on psychological ownership. The research gap is formed in the combination of the literature of customer experience, customer value and psychological ownership within the context of social media communities in the gaming industry. The research is done by using qualitative methods in order to develop a deep understanding on the phenomenon.
The study is done as a part of the launch of a new game called INFRA by Loiste Interactive Oy. The research data is gathered from the interaction of the community members of INFRA-community, formed around the game in the social media. Discursive analysis is used for analyzing and understanding the underlying meanings of the interaction.
The research shows that psychological ownership can be seen in the interaction without trying to control or influencing it. Furthermore, according to the results, customer experience and customer value can be influenced by the tools built on psychological ownership by affecting the interaction in the community. Despite the fact that the interaction can be influenced by simply building the tools based on the previous studies of psychological ownership, the predominant affect can be made by linking the tools with the psychological ownership manifested in the interaction on its own.
