Tiivistelmä
Yrityksen kilpailukyvyn turvaaminen muuttuvassa toimintaympäristössä on välttämätöntä. Lean-ajattelun avulla tuotantoyritysten on mahdollista toimia tehokkaammin parantamalla virtausta. Tämän työn tarkoituksena on parantaa kotimaisen elintarviketeollisuusyrityksen tuotannon sisäisten materiaalivirtojen tehokkuutta. Tavoitteena tutkimuksella on löytää nykyisistä materiaalivirroista kehittämiskohteita sekä rakentaa niihin ratkaisuja. Tätä kautta kohdeyritystä autetaan saavuttamaan tehokkaampi ja turvallisempi työympäristö.
Tutkimuksessa käytettiin kvalitatiivista tutkimusmenetelmää. Teoriaosiossa tehtiin kirjallisuuskatsaus lean-ajatteluun sekä visuaaliseen ohjaukseen. Teoriasta saatiin menetelmät materiaalivirtojen analysointiin sekä toiminnan kehittämiseen. Empiirisessä osiossa tietoa kerättiin tuotannon henkilöstön haastatteluilla sekä havainnoimalla työntekoa tuotannossa materiaalivirtojen kuvaamiseksi. Kuvausten perusteella paikallistettiin materiaalivirroista hukkia, joiden vähentämiseksi luotiin virtaustehokkuutta parantavia kehitysehdotuksia.
Virtaustehokkuuden parantamisessa käytettiin hyödyksi materiaalitarpeesta ilmoittavaa andon-järjestelmää, joka kuuluu visuaalisen ohjauksen menetelmiin. Tämän lisäksi käytettiin kohdeyrityksellä jo käytössä olevaa 5S-menetelmää. Näiden menetelmien tehokas hyödyntäminen edellyttää kuitenkin lean-ajattelun periaatteiden mukaisia muutoksia työskentelytapoihin, materiaalien varastopaikkoihin sekä tuotannossa toimiviin osastoihin. It’s essential that companies sustain competitive advantage in the changing business environment. Lean thinking provides production companies a way to operate more efficiently by improving material flow. The purpose of this thesis is to improve flow performance of internal material flows of Finnish food industry company by using lean principles and visual management. The aim of this study is to find development targets in company’s material flows and to create development proposals to these targets. This way the company is assisted to achieve more efficient and safer production environment.
Qualitative research method was used in conducting this study. The theory part of this study consists of lean-thinking and visual management. Theory provided methods for analyzing the material flows and for forming development proposals. In the empirical part of this study interviews of the production employment and observing of the work in the production were used in order to map material flows. The mapping was utilized to locate the wastes in the material flows and development proposals were formed in order to reduce waste and to improve material flows.
Andon was used as the primary visual management method to improve the flow performance. Also 5S was utilized which was already used by the target company. The efficient usage of these methods however requires changes complying with the lean principles into ways of working, storage locations and departments working in the production.
