This thesis aims to develop management of working capital in a paper mill by the means of production planning and inventory management. In production planning the study is to define how cycle length affects in grade change wreck and the increase of inventory and the benefits and harms between them. The rate of surplus of the mill will be defined in half year period and aims to find improvement propositions to minimize those. In addition thesis will focus on reels returning from port and ghost reels. There will be made present state analyses for different parts of the thesis to clarify improvement sections. The study will utilize mill’s own information systems to analyze different sectors. In analyzing there will be used rough production planning and different kind of reports considering inventory and production. According to the results can be stated that increasing cycle length is not rational using make to stock production form. In paper industry there will be always surpluses and in the mill in question the utilization rate for those is quite high. At large management of working capital in this mill is in good control and there is no need for bigger procedure amendments. Mill had different understanding considering reels returning from the port as it really was. The study will present improvement propositions to decrease the problem and achieve concrete savings. The amount of ghost reels turned out to be minor.
