This report presents the results of the project called the Decentralised Energy Production by Bio-coal Pellets. The aim of the study was to evaluate the possibilities of small scale energy use of bio-coal pellets in the heat and power production. Bio-coal pellet is a new fuel for the small scale energy production and it has been getting a lot of attention. The combustion of bio-coal pellets was executed by laboratory facilities and practical experiments to evaluate their suitability to the existing oil and pellet plants. The combustion emissions were analyzed at laboratory facilities and compared to the normal white pellets. The examination of market potential and the tentative bio-coal pellet delivery logistics was also included in the study. The ultimate ambition was to identify the business possibilities in the whole value chain of bio-coal pellets and promote the future development where the emissions of energy production decrease and the self-sufficiency of energy production increase in the region of South Savo.
