Tiivistelmä
Virallisia lajikekokeita tehdään uusien kasvilajikkeiden viljelyarvon arvioimiseksi. Tiedot kasvilajikkeiden satoisuudesta, viljelyominaisuuksista ja sadon laadusta auttavat viljelijöitä ja pellon tuotteiden jalostajia valitsemaan oikeat lajikkeet käyttöönsä. Myös kasvilajikeluetteloon otettavat lajikkeet päätetään virallisten lajikekokeiden tulosten perusteella. Lajikkeiden viljelyarvoa arvioidaan käytännön viljelyä vastaavissa kenttäkokeissa, joissa uusia lajikkeita verrataan tunnettuihin mittarilajikkeisiin. Kokeet toteutetaan valtakunnallisesti kattavasti, vuonna 2015 kahdellatoista koepaikalla. Lisäksi järjestetään erilliset kokeet viljojen taudinkestävyyden ja ohralajikkeiden happamuudenkestävyyden selvittämiseksi. Myllyvehnistä määritetään leivontalaatu. Uuden kasvilajikkeen viljelyarvo selvitetään kahden vuoden kokeilla. Monivuotisilla nurmikasveilla koejakso kestää kuitenkin perustamisvuoden jälkeen kolme satovuotta. Lajikeluetteloon hyväksytyistä lajikkeista voidaan peruskoejakson jälkeen tehdä täydentäviä neuvonnallisia kokeita. Lajikekokeiden tulokset esitetään kahdeksan vuoden yhdistelminä. Tulokset analysoidaan käyttäen lineaarisia sekamalleja. The purpose of the official variety trials is to evaluate plant varieties for the value for cultivation and use. Information about the yield potential and suitability for cultivation and the crop quality help farmers and processing industry to choose the best varieties for their purposes. The decision to accept a variety to the official plant variety list is also based on the results of the official variety trials. The value for cultivation and use is assessed in field trials where new varieties are cultivated in common cultivation methods side by side with well known varieties.
The official variety trials include all cropping zones in Finland. In 2015 the trials were located in 12 trial sites. Along with the field trials there are separate trials to estimate crop varieties’ resistance to plant diseases and barley varieties’ tolerance for low pH in soil. The baking quality of bread wheat varieties is assessed in a baking laboratory.
The official variety tests take two years on annual plants and on perennial grasses the evaluation is based on the results of three years. After a variety has been added to the official plant variety list it is allowed to be tested in the official variety trials as an advisory variety. The results of the variety trials are summaries over the past eight years. The results are analyzed using a linear mixed model procedure so that the estimated means of the varieties are comparable despite of different trial years.
