A project called The Strengthening of the Finnish National Network was carried out at the Ministry of Justice between 1 March 2019 and 29 February 2020. The objective of the project was to strengthen the activities of the Finnish National Network in Cross-Border Civil and Commercial Matters and to develop its working methods and structures. The project received funding from the European Union's Justice Programme (2014–2020). The Member Guidebook at hand was drawn up as part of this EU project.
The Finnish National Network in Cross-Border Civil and Commercial Matters was established in 2016. The purpose of the network is, among other things, to disseminate information about EU civil law and related information sources to Finnish legal practitioners and to contribute to the collection of information on practical questions arising in the consideration of cross-border cases, on the number of cases, and on the application of EU civil law in Finland. The network consists of Finnish judges and other legal practitioners.
The guidebook is intended as a tool for the members of the Finnish National Network. It contains information about the activities of the network and presents ideas and best practices on how the members can act as part of the network. The guidebook also contains basic information about the European Judicial Network in Civil and Commercial Matters, under which the Finnish National Network also functions. The guidebook can be used both for disseminating information and for introducing new members to the activities of the network.
The purpose of the guidebook is to support and strengthen the activities of the National Network in Finland and to provide information about Finland's national activities also to other EU Member States. The guidebook aims to serve as a source of information and inspiration for the members of the Finnish National Network and others interested in the work of the network as well as for those EU Member States that consider establishing their own national network or developing their existing one.
